Why developers choose Vanir as their Independent Connection Provider

Up to 20% cost saving

Independent adoption routes (e.g., IDNO) and value engineering mean lower install costs compared with DNO‑only options.

End‑to‑end delivery

We handle the full pathway: feasibility, Point of Connection (POC) applications, detailed design, on‑site build, testing and energisation.

Programme certainty

We plan around your milestones—coordinating street works, approvals and DNO interactions so utilities don’t delay handover.

NERS expertise

NERS‑standard designs and construction for contestable works, delivered to the same technical standards the networks expect.

How We Cut Costs (without cutting corners)

How the “up to 20% saving” is achieved

Using independent adoption pathways (e.g., IDNO) we obtain an asset value contribution for eligible networks. Combined with efficient trench sharing, optimised cable sizing and substation placement, this typically delivers up to 20% lower install cost than DNO‑only routes—while meeting the same standards and safety rules.

Our Process

Step 1

Enquire

Request a new connection

Share your site and load details; we confirm scope, advise on the best route to grid, and outline next steps.

Step 4

Build

Request a new connection

We construct the contestable works—HV/LV mains, substation and service terminations—exactly to the agreed programme and standards.

Step 2

Survey & Design Quote

Survey & Design Quote

We visit site, develop the connection design, apply for/confirm the POC with the DNO, and issue a free, no‑obligation quote.

Step 5

Energisation

Energisation

Once inspected and accepted by the DNO/IDNO, we coordinate witness testing, metering/MPAN and energise your supply.

Step 3

Contract & Mobilise

Contract & Mobilise

On award, your Delivery Project Manager agrees a programme, coordinates with the DNO/IDNO, and lines up permits, materials and street works.

Step 6

Adoption & Handover

Adoption & Handover

We arrange adoption by the DNO or IDNO and provide as‑builts, test certificates and your final handover pack.

Commonly Asked Questions

What’s the difference between contestable and non‑contestable works?
Contestable works (which we deliver) include the design and build of new off‑site/on‑site mains, substations and services to adoption standards. Non‑contestable activities (owned by the DNO) include certain upstream switching, final tie‑ins and network reinforcement. We manage the DNO interface for you.
How do you achieve the cost saving vs DNO routes?
By securing IDNO adoption where suitable and optimising designs, we access asset value contributions and reduce duplication—typically delivering up to 20% install savings.
Do you operate nationwide?
Vanir is North West based with UK‑wide delivery capability.
Can you help with metering and supply contracts?
We coordinate MPAN creation and work with your chosen supplier/MOP so metering is ready for energisation.
When should we engage you?
Engage us pre‑planning or RIBA 2–3 for the best route‑to‑grid strategy, accurate budgets and trench coordination with other civils.
